National Day of Action
Against the Occupation of Iraq
and Repression at Home
On Monday May 19th,
the birthday of Malcolm X and other resisters to war and racism, grassroots
racial justice groups across the U.S. will launch a day of nationally
coordinated action to demand an end to the U.S.' "war abroad and
war at home."
Community members across the U.S. will engage
in rallies, pickets, teach-ins, and cultural activities highlighting the
injustice of Bush's invasion and occupation of Iraq and calling for the
withdrawal of U.S. military forces.
The actions will also draw attention to the
negative impact the war and "Homeland Security" policies are
having on communities of color at home. They will include testimony from
grassroots leaders and individuals wose communities are becoming less
safe as a result of deepened racial profiling, increased policing and
police violence, massive cuts in basic services, and mass detentions and
deportations of immigrants. Many participants will target local institutions
that represent the link between the war on Iraq and government attacks
on communities of color at home.
Below is a list
of cities and events included in the Racial Justice 911 Day of Action.

Support from the RJ 911 Network
To support local work to build May 19*,
the Steering Committee is:
n
Shipping
postcards announcing May 19 activities in cities across the U.S. (Email
info@rj911 if you want us to send
them to you for use.)
n
Working
with national anti-war coalitions like ANSWER and United for Peace and
Justice to list this call on their websites and announce the activity
widely.
n
Organizing
a locally & nationally coordinated media campaign to gain visibility
for RJ 911 & our analysis, including press releases.
*NOTE: In cities like NYC and elsewhere, many groups have traditionally
organized racial justice events on May 19. This call to action recognizes
and supports those activities. We encourage RJ 911 groups to pro-actively
check in with those groups ASAP before moving ahead with organizing on
the 19th.
